Background & Experience
I am a New York State licensed clinical social worker. I also work as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work & Child Advocacy at Montclair State University. I earned my Bachelors of Science in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Toronto, my Master’s of Social Work from New York University, and my Ph.D. in Social Work from Rutgers School of Social Work. As a social worker, I have over 8 years of experience working in schools and community mental health programs across New York City, helping teens and adults recover from trauma, practice coping skills for managing stress, and establish and maintain healthier relationships. I have also supervised and taught Clinical Social Work courses to Masters-level students at the Rutgers School of Social Work.
My research interests center on the impact of trauma, marginalization, and oppression on adolescent and young adult development and relationships. I have worked on a number of research projects focusing on the life experiences of adolescents and young adults. These include research on young adults with histories of foster care involvement; the transition to college for LGBQ students; and the challenges facing students who are juggling school and parenthood. My dissertation explored the ways that young women living with mood and anxiety disorders experienced their relationships with important people in their lives. For more information on my peer-reviewed publications, please see my profile on ResearchGate.
I am a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Society for Social Work and Research.
